Amantea
Amantea is an ancient town on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria, near the site of the Greek city of Temesa. It has a rich history, including Arab, Byzantine, and Norman influences. The town played significant roles in historical conflicts and was an important harbour in the Middle Ages. The old town, built on ramparts and dominated by the ruins of a fortress, offers a glimpse into its storied past. Notable visitors to Calabria include Edward Lear, M.C. Escher, Norman Douglas, George Gissing, and Henry Swinburn.
